Abstract

The author of the Gospel of Matthew uses the form and technique of ancient biography to present Jesus as a true leader of the people of Israel. A biographical-narrative reading of the first chapters of Matthew clarifies the powerful rhetoric by which the author shows the reader the untrue present leadership of Jerusalem and introduces the ideal king, Jesus Messiah. In this way the author has begun to paint a portrait of his ideal leader, in some way related to other writings in the similar genre.
