Approaches to ”useful” cinema

Aktivitet: Deltagit i eller arrangerat evenemangArrangerat workshop/ seminarium/ kurs

Beskrivning

This event explores how institutions, states and corporations have used the film medium for specific purposes. In the past decade there has been an upsurge in scholarship on nontheatrical film and scholars have mapped various institutional contexts, genres, and audiences. This symposium addresses state-sponsored cinema, the collaboration between public and private institutions, comparative approaches to films made with different purposes and audiences in mind, and the role of the individual filmmaker in the production of sponsored films. By creating a context for discussion between scholars using different approaches and different types of material this event hopes to gain new perspectives on this important strand of filmmaking.
