Beskrivning

Two day workshop/seminar exploring blackbox larp design as an approach for VR storytelling. Nordic Larp is a practice within the field of live-action role playing focused on collaborative embodied play, bespoke design and serious topics. Two decades of systematic iterative practice has equipped Nordic Larp with a unique toolbox for participatory design, with particular focus on how to design story spaces in which participants experience full narrative agency within the parameters of a piece in a physical, analogue room. Blackbox larp is a subset of Nordic larp, designed for production in theatre black boxes and to have a low threshold for participation. The experiences are typically 1-4 hours in duration and require no preparation; many blackbox larps are also non-verbal and design narratives through physical interaction. The time constraints, physical limitations and narrative capabilities of in particular blackbox larp has unintentionally made it an analogue testing ground, resolving storytelling problems that VR too is now bumping up against. The Blackbox Sessions is a two day seminar for practitioners in VR, the arts and larp; no previous role-playing experience is required. We will play and discuss narrative strategies and challenges in selected larps and VR pieces; discuss participation challenges in the participants’ project, and reflect on how analogue larp design tools can translate to the next generation of digital spaces, where multi-player interactions, full-body haptics and real time facial rendering are real possibilities. Participants: Nina Runa Essendrop, Àron Birtalan, Nadja Lipsyc, Lundahl & Seitl (Christer & Martina), Makropol (Mads & Johan), Francis Brady, Jonas Bentzer, Sarah Hoover, Johanna Wagner, Nadja Lipsyc, Brody Condon, Johan Lundin, Maria Engberg, Susan Kozel, Bombina Bombast (Emma Bexell), Christian Skovbjerg Jensen, Margot Edström, Mattias Givell and Zahra Moin
