DR P1, Orientering Udsyn: 10-års jubilæet for Kinas Silkevejsinitiativ

Tabita Rosendal, PhD student at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, was invited to evaluate the Belt and Road Initiative’s first ten years on “Orientering Udsyn”, a program on Danish state radio station P1. From her fieldwork site in Sri Lanka, she contextualized China’s investments under the Belt and Road Initiative framework and argued that the initiative continues to face both internal and external challenges. She noted that the initiative has been successful in promoting China’s soft power in the Global South – but in the eyes of Xi Jinping, the reception from Western powers leaves much to be desired. Finally, she argued that the initiative will likely face some restructuring in the years to come.
