Aerosol drug delivery is used for a variety of therapeutic applications, both in hospital settings and for at-home treatments. In this talk, Madeline Zhang will present two recent studies aimed at improving the efficiency and efficacy of aerosol drug delivery in these different contexts. The first study shows the enhancement of the delivered dose of aerosol therapy during high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy for infants in the ICU by decoupling temperature and humidity control with a novel humidifier. The second study demonstrates the improvement of olfactory targeting with a nanotech nasal spray nozzle, enabling self-administered hyposmia (loss-of-smell) treatment with theophylline.
