FemtoMAX beamline – Beamline for structural dynamics

Namn på nationell/internationell infrastruktur som denna infrastruktur tillhör

    MAX IV Laboratory

FemtoMAX facilitates studies of the structural dynamics of materials. Such studies are of fundamental importance for key scientific problems directly related to programming materials using light, enabling new storage media and new manufacturing techniques; for obtaining sustainable energy by mimicking photo-synthesis; and for understanding chemical and biological functional dynamics. The key technology behind this beamline is the generation and detection of very short and very intense X-ray pulses. The FEMTOMAX beamline utilizes the MAX IV Linear Accelerator (LINAC) as an electron source. The femtosecond X-ray beamline at the MAX IV short-pulse facility (SPF) have pulse lengths on the time scale of molecular vibrations (100 fs) at wavelengths matching inter-atomic distances (Å).

    Utrustning och resurser

    • Energy tunable hard x-ray beamline 2-20 keV
    • Synchroniized femtosecond laser
    • In-air and in-vacuum sample environments for X-ray diffraction and X-ray spectroscopy
    • Area detectors

    Erbjudna tjänster

The service comprises beamtime for carrying out x-ray experiments for studying structural dynamics on the sub-nanosecoond to subpicosecond timescales. Users are supported on-site by the beamline staff.

    Styrning av infrastrukturen

The beamline is headed by a beamline scientist, time for experiments is allocated through a peer review process by an external program advisory committee. The scientific scope of the beamline is defined in interaction with the management of MAX IV Laboratory and the Scientific Advisory Committee.
