Lund Ion beam Analysis Facility

Namn på nationell/internationell infrastruktur som denna infrastruktur tillhör

    • Part of the national Wickman infrastructure for geological microanalysis
    • Member of the IAEA Accelerator Knowledge Portal:

Accelerator based facility for elemental analysis using nuclear and X-ray techniques with applications in e.g. medicine, biology, geology, astro-geology, material analysis, archeology. Sample sizes from cm down to micro-metres. Detection limits from 10 ppm down to sub ppm depending on element and analytical method.

    Utrustning och resurser

3MV single-ended electrostatic accelerator with two active beam lines holding three specialized chambers for elemental analysis and material modification:
    1) Macro chamber for routine PIXE elemental analysis of cm-sized samples, typically aerosol filters.
    2) Total Ion Beam Analysis (TIBA) chamber combing two large solid angle position sensitive particle detectors, a gamma-ray detector and an X-ray detector for the measurement of most elements.
    3) A chamber for micro-PIXE analysis using a large solid angle X-ray detector micro-scale elemental analysis.

    Digitala och fysiska samlingar

Digital raw data, digital evaluated data, result compilations. Data stored locally.

    Erbjudna tjänster

Quantitative elemental analysis in a scale from micrometer level up to cm using different or combined methods of ion beam analysis. By nuclear reaction analysis: H, D, Li-7, B-11, O-18, F-19, by PIXE from Na, Mg and heavier. A beam focused down to 5 µm can be obtained scanning over the sample for elemental mapping in TIBA setup and down to 1 µm in the micro-PIXE setup.

    Styrning av infrastrukturen

Managed by Charlotta Nilsson with a small steering group.
