    Super ADAM

Namn på nationell/internationell infrastruktur som denna infrastruktur tillhör

Super ADAM instrument is located at the Institute Laue Langevin (ILL), Grenoble, France.

    Beskrivning

The Super ADAM instrument is a monochromatic neutron reflectometer at the ILL, financed by Swedish Research Council. The operation of the CRG instrument is regulated by a CRG contract between ILL and Uppsala University. Currently, Super ADAM is the highest flux neutron monochromatic reflectometer world wide, outperforming other instruments regarding Q-resolution and polarisation efficiency.

    Utrustning och resurser

Super ADAM is positioned at the H5 guide at the ILL. It is a two axis diffractometer using a neutron wavelength of 5.2 Å. The area detector allows to capture off-specular as well as grazing incidence small angle scattering. Several options for polarisation-analysis are available, including off-specular scattering.

Super ADAM has a large experimental area and modular design, which allows for a large flexibility currently unrivalled for other instruments of this type. Through its high resolution and polarisation (up to 99.8% incoming and 99.4% outgoing) Super ADAM excels in reflectivity measurements on magnetic thin films and multilayers. The selectable outgoing resolution and 2D position sensitive detector make Super ADAM an ideal tool for the experiments on polarised off-specular neutron scattering and, to some extent, GISANS (option under development). Low background and optimised measuring algorithm result also in significant progress in the area of experiments on solid-liquid interfaces.

    Erbjudna tjänster

The Super ADAM project concerns the operation of the infrastructure, making the instrument accessible to Swedish researchers, both for conducting cutting edge science as well as training through research. The operation is regulated by a CRG contract between ILL and Uppsala University. The training is essential, providing an important competence platform required for the planned Swedish utilisation of European Spallation Source (ESS). The aims of the Super ADAM project are threefold: (i) to provide training possibilities through research, (ii) provide infrastructure for conducting internationally competitive research, and (iii) provide a platform and remain as a driving force for instrumentation and method development.
