Forskning

Dr. Alessandro Fiorenzano holds a post-doctoral position at the Department of Developmental and Regenerative Neurobiology, Lund University (Sweden), where he is working with Prof. Malin Parmar’s group. Originally from Italy, Alessandro was awarded his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biology from the University of Naples Federico II. He obtained his PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology at the Italian National Research Council Institute of Genetics and Biophysics, where he consolidated his background in stem cell biology. During his PhD program, he studied the impact of the extracellular microenvironment on pluripotency and differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ESCs), with particular emphasis on extrinsic and intrinsic pathways including ESC self-renewal regulation by  non-coding RNAs. His current focus is on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying neuronal specification that efficiently drive controlled differentiation of human stem cells into subtype-specific dopamine neurons for use in stem cell-based therapies for brain repair in Parkinson’s disease.
