Christian Binz is a postdoctoral researcher at CIRCLE, Lund University as well as Associate with the Energy Technology Innovation Policy Program at Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He received his PhD in Economic Geography from the University of Bern in 2012. Christian is a recipient of the Giorgio Ruffolo Post-doctoral Research Fellowship in Sustainability Science (2015) at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and has worked as a post-doctoral Research Fellow at UC Berkeley, Qinghua University (China) and Eawag (Switzerland).
His current research interests are centered on the multi-scalar geography of sustainability transitions in the water and energy sector. By combining recent insights from transition studies, evolutionary economic geography and the global innovation networks literature, he aims to explore how international linkages shape innovation in clean-tech industries and the technological leapfrogging potential of latecomer economies. In his current Swiss NSF-funded Post-Doctoral Research project he investigates how extra-regional network connections influence industrial path creation in the Chinese solar PV, wind power and water recycling sector.
