Forskning

Since I started my journey in science, translational research has always been the focal point. The knowledge that my basic discoveries might one day contribute to the development of new therapies fills me with immense pride and drives my passion.

My group investigates how naturally occurring host defence peptides transiently fine-tune inflammatory pathways and whether this short-lived immunomodulatory activity can be harnessed for therapeutic development. We seek to characterize their mechanisms of action at both cellular and systems levels, combining molecular and cellular approaches with transcriptomic and bioinformatic analyses. To achieve this, we employ methods such as SDS-PAGE followed by western blotting, flow cytometry, ELISA, confocal microscopy, and bioinformatic analysis of transcriptomic data, as well as relevant in vivo mouse models of TLR-driven inflammation.

Uncontrolled inflammation plays a central role in infectious and autoimmune diseases. By understanding how endogenous peptides regulate inflammatory responses, we aim to develop strategies that mitigate excessive inflammation while preserving protective immunity. Such approaches may improve outcomes in chronic inflammatory conditions, reduce long-term tissue damage, enhance vaccine responses, and help manage complications associated with emerging infectious diseases.
