Decision making, well being, and sorting routines among investigators and administrative officials in three Swedish public authorities

Carl Martin Allwood, Professor
Ilkka Salo, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology

This project studies the relations between how decisions are accomplished (efficiency and other aspects) by investigators with decision making tasks at the Swedish Social Insurance Administration, the National Tax Board, and the Police, and the investigators’ cognitive characteristics regarding decision making, sorting-routines, well-being, and tendencies for burn-out syndrome. The project started 2006 and includes three studies. The results are expected to improve our understanding about how the investigators’ decision-making methods, organization of the work-material, and decision-making style, are related to their degree of well-being, and tendencies for burn-out syndrome. The results are intended to be useful for influencing decision-routines, and to help decision-makers in various domains to be more efficient without increased stress or decreased sense of well being.
