My group's research centers on aging and neurodegenerative diseases. We aim to gain a better understanding of underlying disease mechanisms and aid in the development of better biomarkers for disease progression and clinical trials.

We focus on characterizing the causes and effects of granular patterns of neurodegeneration, particularly in medial temporal lobe (MTL) subregions, which are selectively and early affected by neurodegenerative pathologies and might be good biomarkers. For this, we use structural MRI measures, but also imaging and biofluid markers.

Additionally, analysis of ex vivo material helps us to gain a better understanding of what we observe in living patients. For example, neurodegenerative pathology measures can be linked to structural MRI.

Moreover, we develop methods to accurately measure MTL subregions. Here, we take a rigorous approach going from ex vivo imaging to the development of manual segmentation protocols to the incorporation in automated algorithms.
