Forskning

My research centers on the colonial history of Scandinavia, with a particular focus on Sweden and Denmark. My previous work has examined Swedish colonial settlements in New Sweden (17th-18th century) and the role of resource exploitation as a tool of colonization and "civilizing" efforts in Sápmi. Currently, I am investigating Danish and Swedish settler colonialism and how Indigenous America was perceived during the 19th and early 20th centuries, using museum collections as a lens. Additionally, I explore gendered experiences of colonialism in the Danish West Indies (now the U.S. Virgin Islands) during the 19th and 20th centuries.

A second major area of my research is human migration, diaspora, and the formation of migrant identities, particularly how material culture helps individuals and communities cope with displacement. I have explored these themes across medieval, early modern, and modern contexts, with ongoing projects in these areas.

I also have a strong interest in the history of collecting and the early development of museums. I led a project on Kilian Stobaeus' collections, which examined the emergence and development of the museum in Lund.

Theoretically, my work draws on phenomenology, postcolonial and decolonial theory, and materiality studies.
