Human-induced climate change has a considerable impact on the Arctic, affecting the environment, society and economy. In order to gain a better understanding of the current situation and to predict future developments, it is key to have a comprehensive observing system in place. The EU-funded project Arctic-PASSION (https://arcticpassion.eu) aims to create such a “Pan-Arctic Observing System of Systems" (pan-AOSS).

Within my PhD I will contribute to work package 3. More specifically, I will work with the dynamic global vegetation model LPJ-GUESS and constrain it with existing, or hypothetical, observations. The aim is to assess the potential benefit of additional observing systems (e.g. additional satellite products or in situ measurements) through quantifying uncertainties (i.e. QND) and assessing the model’s predictive capacity.
