Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) constitutes a spectrum of neurodegenerative disorders associated with degeneration of, predominantly, the frontal and temporal lobes. Prominent symptoms include personality and behavioral changes as well as language disturbances. The clinical heterogeneity is evident, and early diagnosis is a challenge. Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) is the neuropathologic umbrella term for these genetically and neuropathologically heterogeneous disorders, which as a group constitute a common cause of dementia, particularly in younger individuals.
My main research goals are to study underlying factors, symptom development, clinicopathological correlation, morphological and molecular substrate in different neurocognitive disorders, with special focus on FTD, in order to improve clinical diagnostics as well as define heredity and clinical profiles in need of specific care and treatment.
