Forskning

I am a clinical neurologist employed at Skåne University Hospital, Department of Neurological Rehabilitation. I divide my time between clinical work and research at the Lund University Center for Cardiac Arrest focusing on brain injury in patients who had a cardiac arrest. I study biomarkers of brain injury, neuroimaging and neurophysiology to individualize patient care. My goal is to establish which prognostic methods are reliable for early prediction of a patients long-term neurological outcome and to improve outcome in cardiac arrest survivors.

Our research group has performed the TTM- and TTM2-trials which found no benefit of targeted temperature management compared to fever treatment only for survival or functional outcome in patients with an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

We are currently recruiting patietents in the STEPCARE trial (www.stepcare.org), in which we evaluate whether sedation, treatment of fever and blood pressure targets can improve patient outcomes. I am principal investigator of the EARLY-NEURO substudy in which we examine whether blood biomarkers, neuroimaging (CT) and electrophysiology (EEG) safely predict patient outcomes at 24 hours after cardiac arrest.

I further collaborate with the CARTA trial group (ass. Prof. Igor Zindovic, Skåne University Hospital) on the risk of ischaemic stroke during surgical repair of type A aortic dissection, the CABO trial group on biomarkers for prediction of outcome within the ICECAP trials/SIREN Network (Dr. Frederick Korley and Dr. Ericka Finck) and the ORCA expert panel on neuroprognostication after cardiac arrest (Prof. Jonathan Elmer and Prof. Clifton Callaway, Pittsburgh University).
