The use of lipid nanoparticles in the development of pharmaceutical products has been increasing over the last couple of years. My research focus is on the use of non-lamellar lipid cystalline phases (mainly spongosomes) to encapsulate complex biomolecules like nucleic acids and therapeutic proteins intended for use in humans. This makes the understanding of the structure and dynamics of these nanoparticles and their interaction with biomolecules very important. The design of these nanocareers focus on ensuring protection of the entrapped biomolecules and functionalization for possible targeted delivery as well as optimizing the release mechanisms. In this study I also investigate the use and uptake of these formulations in cells. I mainly work with techniques like SAXS, SANS, DLS, reflectometry, microscopy (STED, cryoEM), QCMd and flow cytometry.
