Ongoing Project

Colorectal peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) presents a significant clinical challenge, marked by high rates of mortality, and recurrence. In the tumor microenvironment (TME) the interaction between macrophages and cancer cells plays a vital role in disease progression and resistance to therapies. Our approach integrates both mouse models and human tissue samples, using cutting-edge techniques such as single-cell RNA sequencing and spatial RNA sequencing. The project aims to understand how PC manipulates the TME and evade current therapies with a particular focus on macrophage plasticity.

Biography

Dr. Rahman began his academic journey in Bangladesh, earning a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering from Khulna University. He pursued advanced studies at Lund University in Sweden, where he obtained his Master of Science in Biotechnology in 2007 from the Faculty of Engineering. 

Continuing at Lund University’s Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Rahman completed his PhD in 2012 in Clinical Medicine-Experimental Surgery, followed by his first postdoctoral fellowship (2012-2014) in the same field. His strong interest in vascular biology and immunology then led him to the United States, where he undertook a second postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University (2015-2016), supported by the prestigious Swedish Research Council-International Postdoctoral Grant. His overarching goal is to establish an innovative translational research program focused on advancing studies in colorectal cancer and peritoneal metastasis, aiming to make meaningful contributions to the field.
