Forskning

Olof Sundin is a Professor of Information Studies. His research focuses on the sociomaterial configurations, control mechanisms and social impacts of digital information, with a special interest in disinformation. In particular, he has studied search engines and their role in everyday life, as well as media and information literacy as forms of infrastructural meaning-making.

He is currently leading the RE-SEARCH project (funded by the Swedish Research Council), analysing how information-seeking strategies evolve in response to the AI-infused information infrastructure. He is also leading ‘Who is the Expert?’ project (funded by Crafoord) investigating how generative AI influences expertise, evidence and trust in a datafied society.

Furthermore, he is responsible researcher at Lund University in the project ’The Digital Welfare State: Automation Technologies for the Public Good’ (led by Anne Kaun, Södertörn University, funded by the Swedish Research Council), and he is a member of ’The Nordic Disinformation Resilience Network’ (led by Elzbieta Drazkiewicz, funded by Norforsk).

He has published a large number of articles and papers. He is the author of Källkritik: Människor, Teknik och Samhälle (Gleerups, 2024). Together with Jutta Haider, he has also published Paradoxes of Media and Information Literacy: The Crisis of Information (Routledge, 2022) and Invisible Search and Online Search Engines: The Ubiquity of Search in Everyday Life (Routledge, 2019).
