My research focuses largely on pulmonary pathophysiology, especially early detection of pulmonary diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We employ a wide range of different methods to study different properties of distal air spaces in the lungs, e.g. forced oscillometry and nitrogen wash-out.
A major focus is the development of a conceptually new method to measure the dimensions of the distal air spaces. The technique is based on a single breath inhalation of aerosol particles in the nanometer range. The project is carried out in close cooperation with a group the Dept. of Ergonomics and Aerosol Technology lead by associate professor Jakob Löndahl.
Together with other senior researchers in the group, I also perform research in physical activity and radionuclide imaging of the lungs.
