Forskning

I am a lawyer (Doctor of International Law) and a political scientist (Batchelor of Political Science), but I began my professional life by working five years as a chemist in a chemical engineering company. After my law degree, I worked at a district court and a court of appeal, a law firm, and a patent and intellectual property law firm.

In 2018 I defended my doctoral thesis on international law (on the Nagoya Protocol on access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization, to the Convention on Biological Diversity). The thesis is primarily legal (international law), but lies at the interface between international environmental law and theories of international relations.

My research interests revolve around international trade and business law, and particularly regulation of (emerging) technologies (intellectual property law) in relation to concepts such as sustainability, resilience, and security (geoeconomy).

I am responsible for the master’s course Intellectual Property and Sustainability (HARN62), in the International Tax and Trade Law master’s program, which addresses current issues at the intersection of intellectual property and sustainability (such as the circular economy and the Right to repair (R2R)).

I also teach in the following courses:

  • Introduction to European and International Tax and Trade Law (HARN50)
  • Intellectual Property, Digitalization, and Artificial Intelligence (HARN52)
  • Trade, Investment, and Sustainability (HARN53)
  • Intellectual Property and Trade (HARN54)
  • Competition Policy and Corruption (HARN61)
  • Intellectual Property – Strategy and Innovation (HARG13)
  • Environmental Law (MNXC01/EXTG40/MVEC18/HARA37)

I supervise bachelor’s and master’s theses.
