Personlig profil

I am an interdisciplinary researcher based in the Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences, where I lecture in sound studies and musicology. I am also a member of the research nodes for aesthetic studies and popular culture. My research interests span the fields of cultural geography, colonial history, musicology, cultural studies, sound studies and urban studies. My PhD (University of Edinburgh, 2017) was in cultural and historical geography. My first book – The Geographies of Enlightenment Edinburgh – came out with Boydell Press in May 2022. My latest book is entitled Music and the Cultural Production of Scale. It was published Open Access as part of Palgrave MacMillan's Pivot series in 2023.

Currently I split my time between three main projects:

  • Making it Home: An Aesthetic Methodological Contribution to the Study of Migrant Home-Making and Politics of Integration (an international and multi-disciplinary project funded by NordForsk; see:
  • Sound of Democracy: How Everday Sound Environments Support, Reflect and Deflect Democratic Values (Theme at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies; see:
