I am a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Faculty of Law of Lund University. I conduct my research within the interdisciplinary project 'Refugee Finance: Histories, Frameworks and Practices (REF-FIN)' led by Dr Daria Davitti and funded by the European Research Council (ERC), where I study innovative financial instruments aimed at refugees and migrants, particularly refugee impact bonds, outcome- and performance-based contracts and concessional loans, with a focus on the institutions, processes and actors involved.

I completed my PhD in Socio-Legal Studies (on the concept of slavery in international refugee law) in the School of Law at the University of Nottingham. This was funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and won the DJ Harris Prize for the Best PhD Thesis 2023 at the School. I also hold degrees from the University of Salamanca (LLB/LLM), the Institute for European Studies of the Free University of Brussels (LLM in International and European Law) and the University of Nottingham (MA in Socio-Legal Research). 

I am a Visiting Professor at Oñati International Institute for the Sociology of Law (University of the Basque Country - UPV/EHU). There, I convene the course 'Sustainable Finance and Human Rights' on the Socio-Legal Master. I am a Research Affiliate of the Refugee Law Initiative of the University of London and a member of its Working Group on Courts and Refugee Protection. I also serve on the Coordinating Committee of the Interest Group on Migration and Refugee Law of the European Society of International Law (ESIL), and on the Board of the Think Tank Europe External Programme with Africa.

Before joining Lund University, I worked as a Teaching Associate at the University of Nottingham. During my doctoral studies, I was a Research Associate at the University of Nottingham's Rights Lab Beacon of Excellence (2018-2020), where I worked for various large research projects on measures towards achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal 8.7. in contexts of forced displacement, conflict, and humanitarian crisis. I was also an Adjunct Professor of Human Rights at Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid (2020-2023).

I am a qualified lawyer at the Salamanca Bar Association (Spain). Before my academic career, I worked in the field of international refugee protection and human rights for organisations such as the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in London where I conducted a participatory study with newly recognised Eritrean refugees in the UK, and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) as a legal trainee of the Americas Office in Brussels.
