Serde is a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Law, Lund University. Her PhD project concerns the right to housing as a right of migrants and refugees in international law, and is conducted within the larger project "The Borders Within. The Multifaceted Legal Landscape of Migrant Integration in Europe" led by Dr. Vladislava Stoyanova. 

Serde holds an LL.M. degree in International Human Rights Law from Lund University and an M.A. degree in Labour and Social Security Law from Ankara University, Turkey. Her research interests include economic and social rights, specifically the right to housing and labour rights, the theory of human rights law, law and political economy, migration law and public international law. She uses migration and asylum as a critical lens through which to study and examine the potential strengths and shortcomings of social rights in international law. Before starting her academic career, Serde engaged with civil society on a voluntary basis in relation to different social and environmental causes such as resisting gentrification and climate change litigation. She worked as a voluntary translator for four years, with the aim of helping human rights practitioners in Turkey to have access to the judgments and decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.

Serde frequently presents her research on the right to housing at different international conferences, workshops, and seminars. She is also part of the Oxford Reports on International Law team, preparing case notes for the views issued by the United Nations Treaty Bodies (https://opil.ouplaw.com/home/ORIL). She is a co-convener of the Law, Theology and Culture seminar series organized at the Faculty of Law, Lund University (https://www.law.lu.se/research/research-environments/law-theology-and-culture).

Serde has taught bachelor's and master's students at different levels in various courses at the Faculty of Law, Lund University. She mainly teaches public international law, migration law (specifically, protection of migrants and refugees against discrimination), and human rights law (specifically, economic and social rights & non-discrimination), and the right to housing. Building on her previous experience of moot court coaching, she also acted as a teacher/coach for the European Law Moot Court team of the Faculty of Law in 2022-2023. She has completed her pedagogical training at the Division for Higher Education Development (AHU) at Lund University.
