Forskning

PhD in immunology, medical faculty, Lund university. Post doc at the Surgery Research Unit, Clinical Research Centre, at University Hospital in Malmö.

My research initially involved inflammatory diseases with main focus on multiple sclerosis (MS), and gastrointestinal conditions including sepsis and lever injury for better understanding of the immunological regulation (cellular and molecular basis) for persistence or termination of inflammation. We have provided the first scientific evidence of intestinal inflammation and increased intestinal permeability in animals with MS followed by a clinical study confirming the findings in patients with MS and also Sjögrens´syndrome.

My current research focuses on development of novel and innovative therapeutic interventions targeting the immunological markers and gut microbiome to restoring the gut dysbiosis and modulating the immune system improving the management of diseases including irritable bowel syndrome and myalgic encephalomyelities.

In parallel to my research, I have also had the pleasure of teaching immunology for more than 20 years at Department of Biology, acted as main supervisor for >30 graduate students with master/bachelor theses works and assistant supervisor for 3 PhD students. I have actively designed and developed different experimental in vivo models and clinical trials in collaboration with clinical specialists. My publications include 20 original papers in peer-reviewed journals and had the pleasure of >10 interviews in national/international reports/TV program, invited reviewer to >10 journals and invited speaker to more >50 scientific meetings focused on autoimmunity and microbiome.

I am the founder of ImmuneBiotech AB, a spin-off from the Lund University and a member of Life Science Incubator SmiLe, located at Medicon Village in Lund. ImmuneBiotech focuses to discover and develop therapeutically effective probiotic products, designed with pharmaceutical precision for management of gastrointestinal and autoimmune conditions.
