The focus of my research is magnetic resonance imaging of the wrist at 3T and 7T, with the hope to improve the diagnosis of ligamentous injuries. Wrist arthroscopy is the golden standard for diagnosing wrist and carpal pathology. However, it's an invasive, technically demanding technique. The clinical benefits of an imaging modality able to distinguish, correctly diagnose or exclude wrist ligament injuries are evident: the avoidance of arthroscopy and operational hazards as well as the guidance of physicians towards a correct treatment.
My scientific aims:
- To determine the value of 3D MR imaging in the delineation of anatomic structures and diagnosis of wrist ligament injuries
- To compare image quality and delineation of anatomic structures in the hand and forearm between 3T and 7T imaging
- To compare image quality, delineation of important wrist ligamental structures, and diagnostic accuracy in suspected wrist ligament injury between 3T and 7T imaging
- To compare image quality in pathology of the hand and forearm between 3T and 7T imaging
- To evaluate the accuracy in diagnosing iatrogenic cartilage injury after wrist arthroscopy by 7T imaging compared with 3T
