Forskning

I want to make better crops for food production, but also understand the mechanisms that lie behind my traits of interest. Since 2018, I have been working at LTH within the industrial research center ScanOats (www.scanoats.se), and since autumn 2021, I have been leading the oat genome work package. Within this group, we are working with whole genome sequencing, mapping-by-sequencing to couple mutations to specific traits, and GBS to investigate the diversity of Nordic oats. Furthermore, I am part of the PanOat consortium, where we work on an upcoming oat pangenome and transcriptome. I am also a partner in two newer oat projects. The EU NPA Interreg project “OatFrontiers” started in December 2023. This project pilots plant breeding material in a number of trial sites in the Nordic countries and Ireland, with the aim of identifying oat varieties suitable for the region and creating tools for plant breeders to develop them. The Nordic Private Public Partnership (PPP) in pre-breeding “RobOat - Robustness of Nordic oats” started in 2024. Here, we aim to target biotic and abiotic stresses that are expected to become more common due to climate change. More information about these projects can be found under the projects tab.

A main research interest of mine is seed lipids, focusing on developing crops with improved lipid profiles and storage properties. This means I am concentrating on the enzymes involved in seed lipid biosynthesis and degradation. One of my research questions within ScanOats has been to identify and characterize lipases involved in post-harvest lipid degradation in oats and develop low lipase oat varieties. Previously, I have worked to characterize enzymes involved in triacylglycerol formation in Camelina sativa.

Outside of research, I am responsible for "Biochemistry" and "Gene Technology" courses in the Biotechnology program at LTH, and I am a member of the steering committee of the research network PlantLin
