Before starting a PhD in Experimental Evolution at Lund University I studied Biology at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, and received substantial training in molecular biology and genetics and done laboratory work in some cases as well. In the three years that have passed since I earned my master degree, much has changed in my life. I began working for National Center for Biotechnology of the Republic of Kazakhstan. I was hired as a junior researcher and, given my long standing interest in the biological field. After being awarded with a scholarship from Kazakhstan to start my PhD studies in abroad, I found Dr. Jessica’s group as the perfect place to continue my research in evolutionary genetics. I’ve just started working on Female-limited X-chromosome evolution in Drosophila. The aim of this project will be to investigate the genetics of sex differences using experimentally evolved populations that have been selected for male or female fitness.
