“Platelet Immunology: Historical perspectives & modern day notions.” Citation: For his important contributions to the body of scientific knowledge in immunohematology, particularly in relation to the cellular immune aspects of physiologic and pathophysiologic processes. Dr. Semple’s research has focused on two areas: understanding the cellular immune response to transfusion, platelet transfusions in particular; and understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and the mechanisms of action of its therapies.
