Karakterisering av trombocyternas roll i systemisk lupus erythematosus

Projekt: Forskning

The characterization of non-hemostatic platelet functions including the expression of pattern recognition receptors and release of inflammatory mediators have reveled inflammatory effector functions that could be implicated in SLE pathogenesis. Platelets from SLE patients are activated and interact with endothelial cells, leukocytes, the complement system and immune complexes, resulting in the release of immune mediators and microparticles. In this project we aim to characterize these non-hemostatic functions of platelets in SLE, their role in lupus pathogenesis as well as platelets role in mediating increased cardiovascular morbidity in SLE.
