Climate solutions

A main research focus is identifying and implementing high-impact sustainability solutions, especially effective ways to reduce climate pollution rapidly and fairly. I particularly focus on systemic solutions to decrease inequality through reducing overconsumption of fossil fuels and meat by the wealthiest, which alongside transformations to food and energy systems is necessary to secure a good life for all within planetary boundaries. Our recent Nature Energy paper on five high-impact roles for climate action for the global 10% highest socioeconomic status (Nielsen et al., 2021) was widely covered in media such as BBC and Bloomberg, and served as a basis for the climate action guide for the Netflix film Don’t Look Up. My recent project with Lund Municipality identified key practices to reduce emissions from transport (Kuss and Nicholas, 2022) and agriculture, which will be necessary to meet city goals in line with the European Union’s Mission to deliver 100 climate-neutral cities by 2030.
