The Swedish model, entailing easy access and with midwives as the main providers of contraceptive counselling, is unique. Despite this model, there has been a rise in unmet needs of contraceptive use from nine per cent to fifteen per cent in recent years. In Sweden, about twenty-five per cent of the population are immigrants per definition. Being an Immigrant woman is a risk factor for poor sexual and reproductive health. The overall objective of this multi-faceted project is to gain a better understanding of how contraceptive counselling can optimally be provided by midwives for immigrant women and to improve family planning.
