Beskrivning
Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Drive (AD) vehicles depend on a variety of sensors to build up an understanding of where they are in the world and what objects are in the environment around them. ADAS can use individual or fused sensors to inform or enhance human driving ability, and with sufficient layers of redundancy, AD systems can replicate the driving task entirely. The sensors in aggregate provide a powerful toolkit, but each individual sensor has deficiencies in terms of field-of-view or robustness so it is desirable to have as many complementary sources of information as possible.
The MIMO-PAD project addresses an important subset of weaknesses with existing systems for ADAS and AD vehicles by augmenting these systems with a new sensing technology that provides strong complementary properties in environments where they are highly desirable, and at a price-point that makes it realistic for widespread commercial deployment.
