Morphological alterations of the insula in central nervous system disorders

The region known as the insula appears to be a critical node afflicted in several cerebral disorders, most notably frontotemporal dementia and schizophrenia. In this project, we adress morphological alterations using post-mortem and in vivo (MRI) methods. A particular focus are neutrons unique to the insula, the von Economy neurons and fork cells.
