Multi-level forest policy implementation in Privately Owned Landscapes: Locating hotspots for synergies and trade-offs between ecosystem services

The ongoing climate and environmental crises will impact biodiversity and ecosystem services in Swedish production forests. The European Green Deal and the recently adopted Law on Nature Restoration (LNR) attempts to alleviate the impacts of these crises on biodiversity and climate by increasing the area of protected forest land, but the exact interpretation of the LNR will differ between Member States. In this project, we study possible outcomes of these recent policy changes by considering production forests in a southern Swedish municipality. Using the Heureka Decision Support System, we intend to compare the outcomes of differing levels of restoration in production forests, and the implications for timber production, habitat provisioning, recreation and carbon storage.
