SOLNOR’s main objective is to map and explain the development of small- and large-scale solar PV in Norway, including the drivers and challenges and how this potential can be feasibly realised. Sweden and Denmark will be used as comparable cases.
The main research question is: What are the drivers, barriers, and challenges for solar PV in Norway, and how can the solar potential be realised from the perspective of social science?
This research question is divided into the following sub-questions:
1) What is the techno-economic potential for development of solar PV in Norway?
2) What are the main drivers and barriers for small-scale PV in Norway, compared to Denmark and Sweden?
3) How can we explain the drivers, barriers, and challenges for large-scale solar-power plants compared to other renewable energy technologies in Norway?
4) What lessons can be drawn from experiences in Denmark and Sweden about the drivers and challenges for PV power-plant diffusion in Norway?
5) Under what conditions is solar likely to diffuse in Norway?
The researchers at IIIEE will contribute to all RQs but especially to RQ 2 and RQ4.
The project is funded by the Norweigan Research Council
