Second Grade Biomass for Biofuels

Projekt: Forskning

Projektinformation

Beskrivning

The objectives of this project, Second-Grade Biomass for Biofuels – SEGRABIO, are to:
1) Develop and demonstrate the production of bioethanol and biogas from second-grade and low-cost biomass
2) Show high energy efficiency by verifying synergies from integrated biogas and bioethanol production
3) Improve critical components for pressurized acid hydrolysis

The results from this project will be:
1)A reduction in production costs for 2G ethanol production of 20% to 30% to approx. 4,5 DKK/liter
2) The possibility of producing ethanol and biogas at competitive prices in smaller plants

Populärvetenskaplig beskrivning

The key innovation of this project is the demonstration of using cheaper raw materials for biofuel production. This will be achieved by developing this new and innovative conditioning and separation technology for biomass. The technology will comprise a robust agricultural crusher, a wet-mixing stage in which all of the biomass is preprocessed, and a mechanical separation stage. Through this process, the fibrous fraction from animal bedding and second-grade straw can be extracted and dewatered, rendering it usable for ethanol production. The wet fraction, containing feces and urine, will be converted into biogas.
