Soundscape of K-Pop: A Study of K-Pop Fanchants in Concerts

This project aims to fill the knowledge gap in K-pop studies by focusing on fanchants, which is fans’ singalongs towards idols. By conducting soundscape ethnography, this project intends to characterise the soundscape of
K-pop fanchants. In doing so, this research aims for a deeper exploration of what fanchants actually are in terms of three perspectives: 1) development of K-pop fanchants from a historical and cultural viewpoint; 2) the change in fanchants in the global expansion of K-pop; and 3) the contribution of fanchants to construct the soundscape of K-pop.
