Superheavy Element Research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Projekt: Forskning

Projektinformation

Beskrivning

The experimental nuclear structure group in Lund had the opportunity to join the superheavy element research programme at the 88" cyclotron at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). The contribution from Lund is to provide, implement, and maintain a new focal-plane detector system behind the Berkeley Gas-filled Separator (BGS). This detector for SuperHeavy RECoils (SHREC) consists of several custom-made double-sided silicon-strip detectors developed and manufactured in Lund. SHREC is going to be used for decay spectroscopy of heavy and superheavy nuclei located at the upper end of the chart of nuclei.

Next to registered funding from the Carl-Tryggers Foundation, the project is also supported by a sabbatical stipend from the Wenner-Gren Foundations and travel stipends from the Royal Physiographic Society in Lund.
