Sustainable forestry, ASG on Forest and Man - ASG, Pufendorf IAS

Projekt: Nätverk

Advanced study Group (ASG) at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies

Populärvetenskaplig beskrivning

Human activities affect the forest, while forest man-driven development affect human living conditions. There is a strong interdependence between the planet's forests and the planet's population, which rarely is highlighted in more
comprehensive studies.

In order to preserve the role of forests, the natural resource which the forest constitute must be used in a way that is sustainable from an economic, as well as from ecological and social standpoints. This requires research and knowledge from diverse disciplines: biology, genetics, ecology, chemistry, mechanics, medicine, psychology, sociology, economics, anthropology, and so on. It also requires that such knowledge and research takes place in contexts where different fields of knowledge can inform each other.

The purpose of the Advanced Study Group planned within the Pufendorf Institute is to bring together various disciplines related to the forest and create a research program that can provide a comprehensive scientific basis for
the forest's future development. The goal is to develop a research program that is internationally competitive and where Lund / Alnarp can play a leading role.

An initial meeting with interested researchers will be held on 1 March at 11-14 in the Pufendorf Institute at Lund University. At the meeting, the key international researchers in the areas will be identified for later inclusion in the
Advanced Study Group.
