Testing Non-experts' Intuitions in the Ethics of Self-defense

The typical method in the ethics of self-defense gives significant weight to the philosopher's intuitive assessment of cases. But intuitions diverge on some of the most difficult cases: e.g., cases where a person has the reasonable, but false, belief that someone else poses a threat to them. In this project, we want to explore how laypeople assess these cases to see which patterns and potential explanations emerge.
