The Extracellular Matrix in Patients with CF or COPD as a Basis for Novel Therapeutical Opportunities

Recurrent bacterial infections in the lung of patients is a significant problem for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or cystic fibrosis (CF), and a common cause of contact with health care professionals. Unfortunately, antimicrobial resistance is an emerging and serious threat to the health of these patients and there is an urgent need for novel therapies against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a relatively common Gram-negative bacterial species. This research project aims at defining target molecules, both within the host proteome and on bacteria, that will lead to new strategies for intervention.
