Beskrivning

The interdisciplinary project The Somerville-group and the introduction of historical arguments in philosophy funded by The Bank of Sweden Centenary Foundation aims to highlight and analyse the pioneering efforts made by a group of female philosophers including Gertrude Elizabeth Margaret Anscombe (1919-2001), Iris Murdoch (1919-1999), Mary Midgley (1919-2018) and Philippa Foot (1920-2001), in particular with regards to historical, or genealogical, modes of argument and connections to earlier continental thought that have so far been neglected. The project utilizes an interdisciplinary methodological approach, combining intellectual history, philosophy, extensive archival research, historical contextualization, and argument analysis and evaluation in order to amend this oversight and throw light on several modern debates featuring similar historical arguments.
