Beskrivning

Parkinson's disease is not yet curable, but there are medicines that relieve symptoms and allow people to continue living a relatively active and independent life. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of the treatment often diminishes over time, and there are also side effects of the medication in the form of involuntary movements and troublesome muscle stiffness.

We discovered a number of years ago that these symptoms are associated with abnormal oscillations in the parts of the brain that control our movements. We believe that gradual changes in brain connections lead to these oscillations occurring. We now intend to investigate this hypothesis in order to find a way to interrupt the changes that cause the negative consequences of medication.
