Visual Microhistory: Journeys to the historical spaces of Gothenburg in the 18th century

Projekt: Avhandling

The aim of my research is to develop visual microhistory as a theoretical perspective for studying the situational conditions to make history visual.

What I am interested in is how, when history is approached from the purpose to draw the past, rather than writing about it, that history has the possibility not only to become different, but also change our perception of visual culture. In my project I combine microhistory, visual communication and environmental history to view the conditions to make history visual as a cultural negotiation of a contract with nature, that perhaps even to this day, is yet to be signed.

This project focuses on Gothenburg in the 18th century and how the conditions to make the urban environment visual came into being.
