Beskrivning

Stroke is the leading cause of disability in adults and the second leading cause of death. Every year, 30.000 persons suffer a stroke in Sweden and nearly 800.000 in the United States. About 30% of those affected are of working age. Stroke care in Sweden cost more than 16 billion Swedish crowns per year, and in the United States more than 75 billion dollars per year.

Monitoring of the motoric disability has traditionally been done using qualitative variables, such as the ability to perform certain tasks, but we believe that quantitative measurement of the motoric function using wearable accelerometers may be a more accurate assessment of the motoric impairment and more sensitive to improvements of function during stroke rehabilitation.
Our Aims
• To establish a model to monitor motor deficit of the arm after stroke using wearable accelerometers.
• To evaluate the same wearable technology for evaluation of stroke rehabilitation.
