Sammanfattning
As global narratives of migration continue to focus disproportionately on
movements toward the Global North, "Migration Governance Beyond the West:
Historical Legacies, Contemporary Trends, and Future Trajectories" shifts the lens
to underexplored South-South migration flows. This timely and data-driven
volume offers a comprehensive analysis of migration trends, governance
frameworks, and policy responses across diverse non-Western contexts—from
the Caucasus and Central Asia to the Gulf, East Asia, and West Africa.
Featuring contributions from scholars and practitioners within the EU-funded
MARS project (Non-Western Migration Regimes in a Global Perspective), this research report presents essays that delve into a range
of regional migration systems, exploring key drivers such as labour markets,
conflict, environmental pressures, and demographic change. By centring
voices from and about the Global South, the volume highlights the regional
dimensions of migration often overlooked in mainstream debates.
Essential reading for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners, this collection
provides fresh, data-driven insights into the complex and evolving realities of
global mobility.
