Sammanfattning

This article presents two formerly unedited travelaccounts, transcribed from the Swedish manuscripts and translated into English, narrating visits to Herculaneum, the Herculanense Museum and Pompeii, by Georg Fröman, Royal maçon, and Johan Tobias Sergel, sculptor, respectively. The texts are commented and put in historical context. Sergel's thorough accout of the Museum is read in parallel with the one produced by Winckelmann. The article finishes on the impact that the burried cities on early travellers such as these: thrill, freight rather than aesthetic approval.
