title = "Olgi Tokarczuk szwedzka droga do Nagrody Nobla",
abstract = "In 2019 Olga Tokarczuk, an outstanding Polish writer received Nobel Prize in literature. The prize appeared as a culmination of her growing popularity outside Poland, including Sweden. In our article we attempt to trace Tokarczuk´s pathway to Nobel Prize, through studying her reception in Sweden. Already in 2005 the first translations of her books appeared in Sweden, with enthusiastic reviews. Her reception in Sweden went however through various phases: from praising the local, Central European specific traits to admiration and recognition of the universal, global dimensions of her writing, through her interests in ecology, migration, the condition of the (post)modern man. By 2019 almost all her books were translated into Swedish and she won recognition not only among literary critics but even among the broad reading audience. By following the reviews in the Swedish press, from 2005 to present, and by interviewing her translators and editors we are reconstructing the complex process of reception and recognition of Tokarczuk´s writing in Sweden. We try to answer the questions about the sources of her popularity in the Swedish context that ultimately assured her the highest prize in the literary world",
